TAKK is extremely proud to announce that it has achieved B Corp Pending status and will be spending the next 12 months working towards achieving B Corp Certification.

What is B Corp?

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good. There are currently 2,700 Certified B Corps across 50 countries. B Corp Certification is administered by Standards Analysts at the non-profit B Lab. Standards Analysts are located at B Lab’s Pennsylvania, New York, and Amsterdam offices. The standards for B Corp Certification are overseen by B Lab’s independent Standards Advisory Council.

B Corps are transparent about their operating practices and are held to a high standard of legal accountability. Companies have to be recertified every two years, and if they fail to meet the set criteria, they lose their B Corp status. Not only that, but the criteria are dynamic, making sure that B Corps are always moving with the times and are on the cutting edge of what “good” looks like in the current world.

The B Corp site states that “Society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.”

TAKK felt that this paragraph resonated with our mission to help combine commerce and environmental impact work.

How do you become a B Corp?

In order to become B Corp certified, you have to be assessed by B Lab and meet the required standards. There are three steps to the process:
You also need to have been trading for over 12-months which is why we are currently pending.

  1. Complete the B Impact Assessment. You’ll need to score at least 80 out of a maximum 200
  2. Make sure you meet the legal requirements and work on what amendments you can make if you don’t currently (for example, we have had our company articles amended to say that we will make ourselves accountable for all the B Corp criteria)
  3. Sign the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence and Term Sheet, making your status official

What does the B Corp Assessment Cover?

B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service; it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. And increasingly that’s what people care most about.

Certified B Corporations achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment—a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community, and environment—and make their B Impact Report transparent on bcorporation.net. Certified B Corporations also amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose.

The combination of third-party validation, public transparency, and legal accountability help Certified B Corps build trust and value. B Corp Certification is administered by the non-profit B Lab.

We feel that by joining B Corp we are joining a community of like-minded business owners but are also being held accountable for the ways in which we run our business and the continuous improvement it takes to run a socially aware company as it grows.

We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good.

What does B Corp Pending do for TAKK?

  • Signals to current and future investors that our company is already beginning to measure and manage its social and environmental performance with the best tools available
  • Demonstrates strong governance by showing we have adopted the legal framework early to protect mission and brand equity from the beginning
  • Allows us to connect with more than 2,000 peers in the community of Certified B Corporations

This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation - the B Corporation - Which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

As B Corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:

  • That we must be the change we seek in the world.
  • That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.
  • That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
  • To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
